Phlebotomy Technician

The Phlebotomy Technician program consist of 40 clock-hour comprehensive classroom and hands-on training. Classes will meet once a week for 6 weeks. Phlebotomy Technicians draw blood from patients or donors in hospitals, blood banks, outpatient drawing facilities, or physicians office. You will work in teams, practicing on one another. Each student is required to complete a minimum of 50 venipuncture sticks and 25 capillary sticks in order to pass the course.

Completion of this program makes each student eligible to challenge the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA) certification exam in Phlebotomy.  This agency is a nationally recognized certification program.

CPR/First Aid

Students will receive expert training in First Aid and Basic Life Support CPR (adult, child & infant) including Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). This 4-hour class includes instruction, demonstrations and hands-on activities and culminates in the students earning two American Heart Cards. It is appropriate training for Certified Nurse Assistants, healthcare workers, teachers, childcare workers and volunteers. Many health care facilities require this training of their employees.

EKG Training

EKG Technicians perform electrocardiograms and are one of the first people to assist patients experiencing cardiac symptoms. EKG Technicians are a critical member of the patient care team found in physician offices, emergency rooms, and hospital-based cardiology clinics across the country. 

 

The EKG Technician Certificate includes theory and hands-on instruction during the seven-week program. Students will learn anatomy of the cardiovascular system, electro-physiology, lead placement, types of rhythms, AV blocks, and myocardial infarction. Students will also learn the basics of HIPAA security and privacy as it relates to the profession. Hands-on training in 12-lead EKG placement, heart rate calculation, and rhythm strip interpretation are also performed.

Certified Nurse Aide 

This is a 6-week, 3 days a week 141-hour training course that consists of 129 hours of classroom and lab practicum, culminating in a 40 hour clinical externship. The Nurse Aide training program provides knowledge and training in the care of the elderly, ill and disabled persons in long term care facilities, hospitals and personal care homes. (student will be CPR certified).

Patient Care Technician

The Patient Care Technician is a multidisciplinary technical worker trained to provide basic nursing assistant care as well as other skilled function. The role of the Patient Care Technician includes duties traditionally performed by the staff from several different departments such as nursing, phlebotomy, EKG, and respiratory.

 

**This program requires for the student to have an active Certified Nursing Assistant certification.

 

Healthcare Basics

This introductory course provides an overview of the health professions and the healthcare delivery system. Other topics include disease prevention and wellness promotion, guidelines for legal, ethical and moral practice and communication skills. Students will be introduced to the use of computers in healthcare, including diagnostic and monitoring capabilities. The emphasis of this course is to establish a firm foundation of professional characteristics, behaviors, values, skills and knowledge for students to build upon in their healthcare careers.
